I stayed up super late last night working on a story for feature writing. Then I worked on if for hours this afternoon. About 3:30 this afternoon I went to save the paper one last time before I emailed it to my professor and suddenly my computer spazzed! It said my flash drive had been unplugged (which it wasn't...the little icon was still in the toolbar). A little window popped up and said it was going to have to transfer my paper into some weird format like wls$rr (something like that) and it asked if I wanted to convert it in that format. I've seen files like that and they are just a bunch of jumbled letters. So I clicked no and then the page went blank! I tried everything I could and there was no recovering the paper...it was gone. The only thing I could do was start over with the part I wrote last night and had saved in a different spot. I sat here for a few minutes in disbelief wanting to cry and throw the computer across the room (I didn't do either). Then I spent the next hour writing everything I could remember putting in the original paper and then sent it to my teacher. Thank goodness for rewrites!
Anyway, on a much happier note...don't forget to enter my giveaway in the post below before tomorrow night.

Halloween Costumes!
Last Thursday after the play Angela and I got all dressed up in our Halloween costumes and headed off to Club Alt. We didn't get there until it was almost over, but it was still fun. Afterward we had a mini-photo shoot in her suitemate's dorm room. (We may go on a better photo shoot today in the park.) Angela wore a kimono that she made last summer and I dressed in Steampunk! (Think Will Smith's Wild Wild West). So here's some of the pics. BTW my entire outfit minus the tights and goggles (borrowed from a friend) were DIYed for $7.50!

Costuming
Last night was opening night for The Foreigner. It went well. The audience laughed a lot and seemed to really enjoy the play. The crowd favorites were Ellard- a southern young man who is considered to be stupid, and Charlie- the actual "foreigner".
The costumes looked good! So Angela and I feel like our first costuming job went well! There was only one incident and it wasn't even a real problem. One of the guys came up to me and said "is my robe still down in the shop??" about three minutes before the Klan was to go onstage. I asked him if he was serious and I ran like crazy down to the shop to look. I didn't find it...when I ran back up to the stage the guy was putting on a robe and he said "Oh, I found it." I thought he had been just pulling my leg, but he told me later that he really couldn't find it at first.
We have three more performances to make it through and then strike (where we take the set apart and put everything back where it goes) then we can all have a life again. I'll try to get some pictures posted that I took backstage. Angela and I have spent so much time in the costume shop making Klan hoods and robes for this play and doing research to make everything look right. I've learned a lot more about the Klan then I ever wanted to know...
Well...I'm off to finish my Halloween costume because I might be wearing it tonight to Club Alt (an event put on by a church in town as a safe alternative where college students can hang out instead of going to a club.)

Bummer!
Tonight I had to be at dress rehearsal, so I set my VCR to tape One Tree Hill and both episodes of 17 and Counting and I got neither of them :( One Tree Hill was at 8 and 17 at 9. I guess I set them both for 8 o'clock so all I got on my tape is Jon and Kate Plus 8. So now I'm having Duggar withdraws and don't have my usual Monday blog subject. I'm totally bummed, so I'm going to go work on my Halloween costume...which I totally got some cool stuff at the thrift store today for. No pictures though until the whole costume is done :)

New Location
I'm blogging tonight from the new house!!
Today we had a friend come over and with his help and a borrowed truck we got most of our big furniture moved in and enough stuff to start living here! Thanks Mr. C.! It's really neat. Everything is so new and perfect.
This house has a lot of first for our family. First new home, first two story house, first garage, first bay window (me and mom wanted one for a long time), and first time to have a sewing room and game room to name a few things. It's been a long time coming and it feels great to finally be in the new house.
Pictures to come when mom agrees that the house is organized/decorated to her liking :)

Break Time
It's finally Fall Break! It is well needed and appreciated! This weekend I'm going to be doing some last minute sewing for the play that opens next week, moving, and hopefully having a little time to relax before tech rehearsal on Sunday.

Mailing and Money
I love the people at the post office! They are so nice! Every time I go in the lady that works there says how neat my envelopes and packages look and she likes to show them to the other employees :) We had a cool chat today about my sewing and that she loves how crafty I am. It makes me not mind so much the amount of money I'm shelling over to her :)
There is another office though that I'm not fond of...the finance office on campus. Today was payday...but I didn't get a check. The reason: I'm not paid up. Why: because they can't seem to figure out how to apply the same scholarships I've been receiving for the past four years. I was all excited about getting my first pay check for costuming and they made me sign it over to the school...yep, they made me do it. Lame isn't it?? If they can't get it straitened out in two weeks then I'm not going to be able to pre-enroll and that's kind of important since it will be for my last semester.

More about the Duggers
Tonight (Monday) I watched two more episodes of Seventeen and Counting (refer to this post if you have no idea what I'm talking about). In tonight's episode the Bates family came to visit with their 15 or 16 children and 1 more on the way. The two families met at a home school convention...probably the same one the oldest boy met his fiance' at. The Bates family is very similar to the Duggers when it comes to beliefs and family values. Momma Bates said that one day they just felt like they should wear dresses to be modest...so they do (the females anyway). The Bates came to visit for two weeks and during that time the Bate family stayed in the boys' room while the Dugger boys staying in the bus...sounds lame huh. Nope, the bus is something like a rock star would have. It was huge and included 15 bunks! Since the Bates were around it was time to go to Silver Dollar City. When I heard that I actually squealed and jumped a little :) I was totally there and saw the Duggers and the film crew! The families color coordinated so they wouldn't get lost. The Bates family females had dresses that one of the girls made...they were matched in teams. It was funny when they showed a picture of some of the Bates girls and a picture of some SDC employees and turned them both B&W...the two photos looked very similar! Each of the older kids were assigned a couple of younger kids and that was a "team". So each set of three or four kids had a clothing color. One girls team was wearing blue dresses with green trim while another were wearing pink dresses with orange trim. The Duggers took a simpler approach and put the older girls in pink, older boys in red, younger boys in brown, etc.
In the second episode the Bates and Duggers went paint balling and then those age 18+ went sky diving!
One thing I noticed about the show is that Jim Bob's niece, Amy, and on of the grandpas are often interviewed for a different point of view. The niece either lives with them or is there most of the time...maybe as a nanny or something. She goes with them on every outing. Amy does not dress and look like the other Duggers and she listens to rock, something that the Dugger children are not allowed to listen to.
I'm totally hooked on this show. I saw an advertisement for more of the episodes being shown on the Discovery Health channel...but I don't get that channel :(
I should really be working on a paper right now... I actually managed to include the Duggers in my paper last Monday night :) It wasn't too hard since it was a journal response paper for contemporary issues in mass communication. I wrote about how it's interesting that the Duggers don't really watch TV, but they are so impacted by it. Because the camera crews, sound men, editors, etc are around so often that the older children have gained an interest in working sound, cameras, and playing around with editing. Many of them have said that they want to go into the field of media...I guess you can be affected by television even without watching it.
I just looked are there are entire websites dedicated to the Duggers, like this one. They also have a website. Anyway, that's about all the Dugger fun I can have for tonight...I love this family :)
i just found the best blog post ever about tonight's episodes... "And for the 2 of you still with me after this novel, I’ll leave you with the image of both families (33 children, 4 parents, one unclean cousin and 2 fetuses) sitting in the living room singing Amazing Grace while TLC inserts slow-motion clips of skydiving, Silver Dollar City and Paintball wars. Life is good."
Ok, I'll really shut up now about the Duggers...but seriously, they fascinate me! ...and they have a book coming out soon...joy!
BTW- so post offices are closed on Columbus Day?!? News to me...needless to say I was not able to mail my lovely packages. And there was nothing good at the thrift store :(

Pretty Little Things in the Mail
I love send mail! It's as much fun as getting mail. If you've gotten mail from me then you know what I'm talking about. Today I fixed up two packages to be mailed out tomorrow. One is to Carol, the winner of the zipper bag and the other goes to Anna in the UK. Anna is the first buyer from my shop!

The bag was sent in a recycled envelope that was covered in pages from an old children's encyclopedia. The hat is being mailed in a cereal box that has been wrapped in wall paper I got $.25 a roll, can be seen in the last photo. Everything gets sent with a business card, a personalized note, and a covered button on a ribbon. (Sorry, no pictures of the envelope.) I can't wait for the packages to reach their new homes :)

New Vest(s)
My mom and I went on a shopping adventure last Saturday. At Penny's I found a really cute shirt that a cute fitted tee with an attached vest that was only a front. I liked the look, but wasn't willing to pay the price. So I decided to just make one...since I am crafting like that :) I spent the evening making a pattern from a vest I have that is shown in this post (I changed the length though from full to cropped) and trying to decide on a fabric to use. Later I was digging through my closet and found this awesome purple plaid my mom gave me. Later I found an old jean skirt of mine that I thought would look cool as a vest...then it hit me! A reversible vest! So I ended up making a pattern for the back of the vest. When I got back to school Sunday I set to work and started my vest...
I had never made anything reversible before...so it was a little bit of a nightmare. I found a website with a how-to and ended up with a vest that could not be turned right side out. Just goes to show that not everything on the internet is true and accurate. After about three hours of frustration and asking a lot of people for help I finally came across another website. This one saved my vest and my mind. I love how my vest turned out and I wore it to my classes yesterday! I ended up using some of the buttons that I bought last week for $.10 a card. I didn't want to take the buttons off the cards, but it's the best buttons I have that there are enough of. I'm thinking about making a matching newsboy hat that is reversible as well...if that's possible... I would probably end up looking a little 90's, but I don't really care. I've decided that it doesn't matter what people think about me or my style as long as I like it and I'm true to myself...so bring on the 90s! :)
**Don't forget to enter the giveaway...only a few days left!**
(Please forgive the fact that I have the same pose for 4 of the 5 pictures.)

17 and Counting
You may recognize the title...it's from the TLC show about the Dugger family. I happening onto the show last night and watched two episodes of it. I originally switched over to it because I've seen the Duggers twice at Silver Dollar City and was talking about them to my parents this past weekend.

I started watching the show and I love it! It's weird how normal the family seems to me. They have planned and worked out everything. They have a way of living with 17 kids (and 1 on the way) that seems almost easy. Makes me want to get married and have a million kids and home school all of them...ok, just kidding...a little :)
The two episodes I saw last night were about the oldest boy getting engaged. He met this girl Anna at a home school thing in Texas like 3 years ago and thought it was love at first sight. He went back home and prayed about her for 2 years and felt very sure that she was the "one." He called her dad and asked for her hand in marriage, drove to Florida to ask her to marry him, she said "yes", then they started courting. It was a little odd because the kids say they want to court instead of date and that the parents don't push it on them, but then in the next shot the parents would be talking about how they would allow them to hold hands before marriage, but not kiss. I makes me wonder if the kids really do have a choice or not, but none the less, they do seem to be happy. It was funny how even thought the oldest boy is 21 and his fiancé is 20 they are not allowed to be together without at least one chaperon...and they draw names for who gets to chaperon.
As odd and different the way the Dugger family lives their life; I like it. I'm going to continue to watch the show to keep up with their family. Anyway, enough of my rambling about other people's families :)

A Year in 200 Posts
For my 1 year blog anniversary and my 200th post I decided to look back at my first year of blogging...and host a giveaway...chill out though, that comes at the last.
Last October I became a blogger after enjoying A Very Mary Design and My House is Cuter Then Yours. The purpose of my blog was to show my crafting and thrifting to my family. The original name of the blog was Crafting Cutie; it started out kind of lame with crappy photos...but it got better.
In the last year I changed the name of my blog from Crafting Cutie to A Glance at My World, learned to knit, won like 7 giveaways, edited 97,854* photos, took 525,394* photos, sewed 59* zipper bags, made 362* trips to the thrift store, got Adsense for my blog, discovered Threadbanger, met Elvis, turned 21, had 21 Flashback Fridays, hosted my first giveaway, started the buildin' a house series (the house is almost done...then there will be some more photos. Mom banned me from posting pics when it got close to being completed), got 2 new babies (lappy and camera), mentioned Kevin 20 times, said KOTV/Craig Day who knows how many times, discovered the fabric outlet store in town, wrote 2 100 item lists, talked about Silver Dollar City on 13 or more occasions, became a fan of Hanson, bought a 50 year old sewing machine and table for $5, cut my hair for locks of love, went horseback riding for the 1st and 2nd time, annoyed the cats by taking 976* photos of them, made lots of new friends and got reacquainted with some old ones this summer, got a credit card, started getting paid to sew, finally made the skirt I promised Mary Ann many moons ago, got two job offers (producer at KOTV and costumer for the place I've worked the last two summers), had the first person I've known go to Iraq, opened my etsy shop, met Hanson, revamped my $5 sewing machine cabinet, and participated in my first 2 swaps...and I've blogged about all of it and more in 200 posts!
**Some of my numbers may be a little off... :) **
That took forever to do all those links, so please at least click a few of them.
Ok, now on to the giveaway. I would like to show my appreciation to everyone out there who has ever read, skimmed, glanced at, or looked at the pictures on my blog...to be quite honest I don't really read many blogs, I look at the pictures. For those of you who have checked out GenerationGap you probably saw the zipper bags for sale. When I first decided to host a giveaway I was just going to use one of the bags I hadn't posted yet on etsy...but then I decided I wanted to make one just for this. So today I sat down and made a fun little bag from some secondhand fabric (I think it was in a box mom got at a garage sale a long time ago).

The fabric is red with green, pink, and yellow palm trees. The bag is lined with a marble-ish tan and white fabric. The bag measures 5.75" X 5.5". For a chance to win leave a comment telling what your favorite post or subject is on my blog. Also please tell your friends/blog buddies so they can enter to win. Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading my blog :)
The giveaway will be open until midnight in Oklahoma (I don't know what time zone I'm in) on Friday, October 10th.

Buttons!
As mentioned before I signed up for my first couple of swaps a few weeks ago and today I received my first package! It was from a fellow Okie who sent me these lovely buttons. I love the yellow one with the blue/purple rings and the gold lion head :)

Here are the buttons I sent her. I had a hard time finding one's I though she would like. For some reason the thrift stores didn't have any buttons while the time the swap was going on. My swap partner likes purple so I tried to include some pretty purple buttons :)

But there were lots of buttons at the Wise Old Crazy Owl Thrift Store today (I think the store name gets longer each time I type it). I got ten cards of buttons for $.10 each. BTW the book used for the background is one I got for $.25 at the Salvation Army a couple of weeks ago.

With the new additions to my button collection, it has grown out of it's cute square jar so I started another jar...which I bought today for $.25. The cool thing about the Tyler candle jar is that it was made in the town where my sister lives...Tyler.

Stay tuned for my next post. It will be my 200th blog post and in celebration of that and of my blogiversary (Oct. 7th) I will be hosting a giveaway!
