Another Video Project

I'm having fun posting these :)

This is another Video Production II project. The assignment was to do an interview story. A different professor asked me to film the Chickasaw Dance troupe so I multi-tasked and interviewed the troupe coordinator while I was there. Lanny was a really nice guy and I loved getting the chance to interview him. Thanks to Jeremiah for saving the day and holding the mic because the lav clip wasn't in the bag.

Facebook

Tonight I finally got around to creating a facebook fan page for Generation Gap! My sis was cool enough to be my first fan...but I would love every one of ya'll with a facebook to become a fan. Here's the link...

46 and Counting

I picked up my cap, gown, and tassel today. Commencement ceremony is in 46 days...oh my goodness.

Finished!

As promised here are some photos of my finished dress! The dress was made for costuming class using a pattern I found in the shop from the early 60s. I got the teal fabric on the $1.50 shelf at Wal-Mart and I love it...there is a slight stretch to it so it was nice to work with. The pattern features a pleated area on the left shoulder and a ton of pleating around the waist that I had to repleat like 4 times. This was the most complicated pattern I've ever worked on, but I'm really proud of the outcome! I also made a petticoat from an old sheet and some bridal toile so the dress will stand out a little.

Then I couldn't resist posing for a classic Donna Reed type moment :)

I'll be wearing the dress to class on Thursday then turning it in to be graded. Jordan has promised to take me on a fancy date so I can wear it when I get it back!

*Thanks mom for taking the photos!*

The Internet is an Amazing Thing

If you would have told me 10 years ago that before I graduated from college I would be running my own small business I would have laughed at you. In fact 10 years ago I still hated computers and was determined to never have a job dealing with computers or money...and look where I am now.

I spend hours each day on the computer chatting with friends on facebook, looking at crafty sites to get inspiration, uploading my own photos, updating my facebook/blog, or working on my etsy...and I love it! I can take my beautiful red lappy anywhere I want *within reason* and still be connected with the rest of the world.

Without the internet I would never have started making hats and bags in the first place, let alone making them to sell. Who would have ever thought that my first online sell would be to a young lady in the United Kingdom?!? I definitely wouldn't have ever thought that I could use my love of thrifting as a means of making a couple of extra dollars by selling vintage shoes *sold another pair today!* One other thing I never thought possible was earning money for blogging. Granted ads aren't making me rich...not by a long shot, haven't gotten a single check yet...but I'm earning a few pennies here and there.

With the internet I can be in contact with teachers, family, friends, and basically the entire world. I am able to, as I like to call it, get back to my roots by learning native crafts such as hand weaving, beading, and knotted jewelry making and about other Native American arts and crafts all through the internet. (I'm not actually Native American, I just feel a strong connection there...more on that some other time.)

So I guess you could say that I've come full circle and have learned to appreciate the internet in a way I never thought was possible. Especially since without it I would never have gotten to know people like Mary Ann, Mary Catherine, and Keiko.

Gal Pals

When I updated the other day I forgot to tell about the best part of Spring Break...I got to hang out with 2 of my best friends from high school! Wednesday night we headed over to the mall and had some much needed girl time. We spent a lot of time laughing and having fun then headed over to Baskin Robbins for some ice cream and ended up hanging out there for a couple of hours talking.

Reading and Sewing

Since it's Spring Break I've been relaxing and doing some sewing, reading, and rewatching project runway on youTube. I had planned on spending all of Spring Break catching up on the Twilight hype...but forgot my book at school. Instead I read the third part book of the My Side of the Mountain trilogy, the first book the Shadow Children series, and I started reading Free Stallion, a book of poetry by Amber Tamblyn. I'm also working on the book Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.

For school I have three more video projects, a resume'- both written and a resume' tape, and I have to read Hamlet and design costumes and make-up for at least three of the characters. Oh and I have to finish the dress I've been working on all week. I'm using a pattern from the 60s and the assignment is to make a garment that fits me, but I have to alter the pattern in some way...so I made the waist an inch larger to fit me and changed the positioning of the zipper. All I have left is to hem it, but I'm waiting to do that until I make a petticoat to go under it to hold the skirt out. I'm waiting to hem it because I don't want to have to re-hem it later if it looks the wrong length after the petticoat is done. People keep asking for a photo...but I really want to wait until it's down to take a photo of it.

Alarms and Dancing

**Totally posted this first without a title...didn't know that was possible...so now I have given it a pretty lame title just so it has one**

Anyone remember this slightly bitter post from last semester?? The one I wrote in the early morning hours while taking refuge in the hallway of the neighboring dorm building while the fire alarm was going off in mine. Well it happened again last night right around midnight, but only lasted about 10 minutes. However both false alarms happened on nights when it was around freezing outside...lame. Anyway enough on that.

Spring Break is next week!! Somehow I lucked out and don't have any classes today and only two on Thursday...then I'm officially on Spring Break. Today at noon I'm going to be at a performance of a Chickasaw dance troupe. I'm planning on toting along an HD camera for some video footage for my next production project and my digital camera so I can get some shots for myself just because I love Native American culture, regalia, etc. The event is supposed to be outside, but the temperature dropped over 40 degrees last night so I'm hoping it will be moved to the alternative "rain" location.

I'm totally rambling...I'm going to stop now.

Yay for Videos

One more video from my production class! This is actually the first video we did, but I'm just now getting around to posting it.

The assignment was to tell a story, so my group partner Blair Waltman and I decided to tell the story of a favorite local diner. It was a fun story to work on. We planned on putting CGs of each person's name during their interview, but ran out of time...I will be going back and re-editing things like that so this can be used for my resume' tape.

I am the reporter, camera operator for the shots when the diner was open, and I did some of the editing. Blair was the camera operator for the actual interview and did most of the editing.

T-shirt Resize

Jordan's sister told us that the only way he and I could be a cuter couple is if I wear his shirts...well it just so happens that one of Jordan's favorite shirts shrank to the point that he can't wear it anymore. Since I'm all crafty he gave it to me :)

So I got inspired by this video on youTube and I altered the shirt to fit me. I planned on making it a little shorter then it turned out, but the original hem looked so nice and and it's not that much too long, so I just left it.

The shirt was pretty cool to begin with...it totally has a picture of a moose printed on the inside.

Fun Night!

So Jordan and I...if you have no idea who Jordan is that's ok. He's the "new guy." You're up to date now. Ok, but really...we started dating on Valentine's Day and he totally planned out an amazing date with a walk at the beach and a picnic (both indoors because of the rain...yes there was sand inside). We danced in the rain. It was loads of fun.

Ok, so anyway, Jordan and I went on a roadtrip last night to Tulsa and ate at the cheesecake factory. It was a really nice night so we sat out on the veranda. Then we hung out at the mall and took our picture in one of those little photo booth things.

On the way to Tulsa we stopped at my parents house because it's just not cool to be in the area and not stop by to say "hi." Mom, Dad...Jordan totally thought you guys were cool :)

Just Remembered...

Yesterday there was an older cowboy walking into Wal-Mart as I was walking out and he totally tipped his cowboy hat and said "evenin' ma'am" and as he walked away I could hear his spurs clicking. *giggles* (There's just something about spurs) I decided there are gentlemen left in the world...they just come in the form of older cowboys and pre-med students ;)

Anyway, really going to do my homework now...after I check my facebook.

Yet Another Video

Yes I'm having fun being lazy and only posting videos from class projects instead of writing normal posts :)

So...while I'm waiting for the season premier of America's Next Top Model I thought I would throw another video up here. This is the second half to the genre project from two posts ago. Jeremiah and I filmed a drama...so Blair filmed a reality show of us filming a drama. Yep, we are that cool :) Like all reality shows we played everything up for the camera...in fact the only real part to this is reality show was the scriptwriting. So yeah, watch and enjoy...

More Video Fun...

This video is another project of my Video Production II class. We were given one class period to shoot and edit a 3-5 minute video. You may notice a reference to that in the film :) (Because of the time restraint we were pretty ghetto with our music and actually got it by playing a song on youTube on one computer and recording it straight onto the other one...so you can here background noise from the classroom...oh well). Anyway, there was no script for this project. All the classroom scenes were filmed first, then the other scenes were being improved during the filming.

I'm the darker haired girl in the white shirt.

I filmed the action portion.

**We had too much fun with the nerf guns in the action sequence, so we threw them into the romance :)
